June Rocked!!!

Phew, I have just finally found a moment to catch my breath! I never would have expected to of been so busy with On the Rocks this June/this year! I am so happy you have no idea. Things are really falling into place and I have had some incredible opportunities come my way this month. All of the trips I have guided and courses I have taught have been so different, so lots of learning, lots of work, and it is this variety that keeps work interesting and challenging. I guess I just owe a huge thank you to everyone who has been a part of or a huge support of this great month On the Rocks: Boulderz Climbing Gym, Alpine Club of Canada, Mountain Equipment Coop, Free Spirit Tours, Ontario Access CoalitionMountain Life and many many more!

Here are some highlights...

ACC Beginner Technique Course:

I was so excited to have the opportunity to offer some unique courses for the Alpine Club of Canada, Toronto Section. This course was a day full of technique lessons, demos and plenty of practice on the rocks. Every course participant also recieved an individual "To-Do List" to help improve their personal climbing. We had great weather and an amazing group of people.

Kristine caught the climbing bug!

 ACC Trad Seconding Course:

This was a HUGE day. Dusk to dawn crack climbing while learning about the world of traditional climbing. By the end of the day these guys were set up with new crack skills, gear knowledge and guide tricks! They learned efficient ways to clean gear, lead belay, clean an anchor and rappel. These three are now knowledgable and dependable climbing partners for any trad climber and ready to make the leap to leading gear themselves!

Ray is psyched on cracks!

Boulderz Youth Team Outings:

I was so excited to have the opportunity to take these indoor climbing stars out on the rocks. These kids are so strong and eager and it was an absolute pleasure to take them out to Metcalfe Rock. Andrew Mcburney at Boulderz Climbing Gym runs an incredible youth team open to all skill levels. For more info go to www.boulderzclimbing.com Thanks to all the parents who came out for their help too!

The ACC slideshow/fundraiser was a huge success too. I honestly couldn't of asked for a better evening. Big thanks to Bryan Thompson of the ACC for making everything run so smoothly. We recieved a great turn out, wonderful feedback, met a lot of really nice people, and raised $550 for the Ontario Access Coalition. This fundraiser would not of been possible without the support of my amazing sponsors and supporters: Sterling Rope, Sanuk, La Sportiva, Joshua Tree Climbing Salve , Blurr Clothing and even PCGI. Thank you thank you thank you!

And what is my reward for all of this hard work? Well aside from the satisfaction of a successful June, we are just starting to climb again and we'll be spending Canada Day weekend on the Bruce Peninsula! Can't hardly wait. My buddy up there is throwing his annual Rib Fest so it will be gauranteed good times and good friends. Can't wait for Lions Head!!!!!!

Last years Rib Fest...
